During the years between the abolition of the old portfolio of Minister of Fisheries and Forests (List) in 1971 and the creation of this ministry, the fisheries portfolio was handled by the Minister of the Environment (List) with the assistance of a Minister of State with responsibilities for Fisheries, generally Romeo LeBlanc.
